Some say that "Captain Creature" has spent too many days in the sun. Conventional fishermen point out, for instance, that blue fin tuna really aren't meant to be caught on a fly rod. Captain Steve Coulter has spent his lifetime pursuing bluewater species off the Carolina Coast, and has traded his downriggers for big game saltwater fly fishing equipment. Holder of several IGFA world records, Steve simply prefers to fish for trophy species with a fly rod. He spends his days aboard the "Sea Creature" chasing blue fins, sailfish, yellow fin tuna, marlin, dorado, bonito, and several species of shark. Steve goes head to head with the trollers, and enjoys the blitzing power of these fish on much lighter tackle. Steve's clients are treated to the ultimate flyfishing experience: pursuing giant offshore species with a fly rod. Sometimes the other guys catch more fish with their downriggers, but Captain Coulter's clients always have the most fun.
Not many fly fishers would choose a 15-weight as their all-around rod, but in Steve's case, this is definitely the right tool for the job. Steve recommends the Scott 8415/3 for bluewater fly fishers. The 8415/3 has a light tip which "casts" 12-inch flies smoothly, while the fiberglass/graphite composite and gigantic butt section make this fly rod virtually unbreakable.
Book Captain Coulter for bluewater fly fishing out of famous Cape Hattaras in any month of the year. For aggressive fly fishers, this experience pushes the envelope...

John Donnell is a legendary Keys captain who has been called "The Babe Ruth of Angling" by close friend Flip Pallot. He has fished southern Florida for his entire life and guided the Keys full time for fourteen years. Donnell is an experienced tournament angler, and has guided more Redbone Champions than any other captain. His sincere love of the sport and deep respect for the Florida Keys give John a magnetic fly fishing personality.
Donnell sums up his love of guiding; "Fishing the flats…the variety of species and methods…is just so exciting. Seeing a customer catch his or her first bonefish on a fly is a real thrill. You feel like you helped them accomplish what, to them, had seemed like an insurmountable goal. And, over the years, so many have become friends. That they've chosen to spend a week with me each year is still an honor because they could have chosen to fish anywhere and with anyone."

Captain Doug Kilpatrick is one of the most professional, courteous, and hard working guides in all of Florida. After graduating from college, Doug decided to pursue his life long dream as a saltwater captain.
He specializes in fly fishing the unique backcountry flats of the lower Keys and Marquesas. Doug has many years of experience on these waters, and knows them as well as anyone. The lower Keys, are a very demanding fishery. Some fisherman say this area presents the most challenging fly fishing in the world, and Doug provides his anglers great chances to catch a world class Permit, Bonefish or Tarpon.
Kilpatrick played a critical role in developing our saltwater rods from the STS Saltwater series and our Kevlar/Carbon push poles to our latest series.

Capt. Tom Rowland grew up in Chattanooga, TN where he developed a love for fishing while spending time with his father. The hours they spent together established a firm foundation for the passion that Tom now has for all types of fishing.
While working in Yellowstone National Park, Tom was able to backpack every area of the vast Park and fish the wild backcountry streams. This adventure lead him to a career in guiding originating in Jackson Hole, WY. Second generation outfitter, Joe Bressler helped Tom learn the guiding business giving Tom a huge head start in achieving the level of success that accompanies him today. After 7 seasons as a drift boat guide on the greatest Western Rivers, Tom was ready to begin his saltwater career. Beginning in Key West, Tom spent a year learning the water before he ever took a paying customer.
Artist Peter Corbin was Tom’s first paying customer and they enjoyed unbelievable success from the get go. On that fateful day, Peter landed 2 Permit on fly in a half day of fishing. Finding that accomplishment difficult to top, Tom worked hard on every charter and quickly developed a reputation of being a patient, extremely hard working and enthusiastic guide. This reputation spread like wildfire and soon Tom was booked constantly.
After marrying the love of his life, Tom and Cynthia delivered two wonderful boys and a perfect little girl. Tom's free time is devotedly spent with his family...sometimes fishing.
For the last 12 years, Tom has spent hours daily, perfecting his flycasting and teaching techniques. In Los Angeles, Tom recorded a 131 foot fly cast with a standard 5 weight fly line and 9 foot graphite fly rod. In 2000, Tom competed in the inaugural ESPN Great Outdoor Games in Lake Placid, NY and won two medals, a silver in the Flycasting division and a Gold in the Overall. Since 1997, Tom Rowland’s tournament record includes more than 65 championships, divisional wins or top 5 finishes in international, national, regional and local tournaments for a wide variety of species.
If his name or face is familiar, it may be because he has demonstrated at fishing shows around the country, published articles and photography in books and magazines and filmed more than 25 nationally televised fishing shows before creating Saltwater Experience.
Saltwater Experience is the culmination of Tom Rowland’s fishing goals by allowing others to see what captivates Tom to obsession.

I grew up in East Tennessee and fished area lakes for bass and panfish and mountain streams of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for brown, rainbow and native brook trout. During college I spent a couple of summers guiding fly fisherman for those same trout. However, I always wished that I was fishing saltwater even while knee deep in a trout stream. I started saltwater fishing when I was 3 and it quickly grew into my passion. When I started fly fishing at the age of 10, I soon saved enough money to upgrade my cheap five weight to an eight and I was instantly hooked on fly fishing the salt. I started fishing the keys in the mid 80s and by the time I graduated from college I was spending several weeks a year fishing in South Florida. I moved to Key West about a month after graduating from college. When I was young I had dreamed of being a flats guide and never dreamed that it would be a possibility much less a reality.
I love pursuing and guiding for the bonefish, permit and tarpon of the lower keys. These fish always present a new challenge and I relish the opportunity to explore new techniques, fish different flies, and look at my quarry from a different angle. I get just as excited watching a large tarpon track and eat a small fly now as I did the first time I saw it. Guiding presents an opportunity to share these experiences with other people and still enjoy it myself. I pride myself in working hard to get my clients in front of fish and providing patient instruction when everything doesn't quite come together.

Rogers life has been intertwined with the lore and respect for a fishery that only five generations of west coast commercial fishing can imbed. Having had his sea fairing legs from birth, sport fishing was merely a means to keep busy little hands away from the deck hands were the serious fishing was taking place.
At the tender age of twelve Rogers first experience with a fly rod came off the back of a commercial boat where Coho and Sea Bass came easy. Since he has used the limber rod to put quite a few more species under his belt including Striped Marlin all 5 species of pacific salmon Yellow fin Tuna Rooster fish Sea Run Cutthroat by the buckets Rainbow Brown & Kamloops trout and of course the life changing Steelhead.
Eighteen years at the helm of a commercial salmon troller as one of BCs finest captains, left Rogers searching for more. In the late 80s he tempted fate by procuring FLY H2O Fly Fishing Charters where he help pioneer open ocean fly tossing for Pacific Salmon. This endeavour did not always come easy as information on the subject was scarce, to say the least. Through perseverance hours at the tying bench and years on the water, Roger began finding consistent result particularly when it came to Chinook which are still considered fairly uncatchable by most fly anglers. Things have since change dramatically as the information age has taken hold of fly fishing and many of Rogers previous secret fly fishing haunts are now house hold names on the west coats of BC. Luckily he has been able to find a few more.
Currently Roger is the premier head fly fishing guide and casting instructor for Queen Charlotte Lodge arguably BCs finest saltwater lodge. When not working he can be found hunting steelhead spey rod in hand on the mighty Thompson River or chasing Kamloop trout through BCs interior high country. In short Roger is a very respected well rounded angler whose innovation and respect for his quarry has won him the admiration and respect of his fellow angler.

Andy Smith is the prodigal son of "Crazy Charlie" Smith of Andros Island, He's also the top guide on the best piece of bonefishing water in the Atlantic Ocean. Andy is one of the most highly skilled and progressive minded flats guides anywhere. His skills as a boatman and angler are superb because he spends all of his free time fishing on his own or with close friend Charlie Neymour. When Andy is poling you up a flat, he is in complete control. He won't even tell you about fish he sees until he has turned the boat to set you up for an eleven o'clock cast and poled you into position. His eyes are X-rays, spotting bonefish in up to four feet of water and tarpon from three hundred yards.
No one knows Andros better than Andy Smith. Born and raised on the island, Andy has fished with a fly rod since he was a young child. Even if you have fished Andros for ten years, Andy will show you something you've never seen or imagined. For instance, resident permit and tarpon live in the far recesses of the mangrove keys, overshadowed by the bonefish which inhabit every flat. The tide swing is a full six hours from one side of Andros to the other, and Andy uses the bights to fish favorable tides all day long.
Andy is a leader among Bahaman guides, and is working to form the first organized guide council among his peers to standardize service, professionalism and prices. The council will also work to protect the local fishery and the integrity and autonomy of local guides from pirates and frauds.

Most of all, they just love to fish, wherever and whenever they can.
Jim began flyfishing at the age of twelve, wetting his first flies on Oregon's Deschutes River. After a brief "real-world" sabbatical to graduate from Dartmouth College, he spent seven years guiding the waters of the Rockies (Montana, Colorado and New Mexico) before becoming a sales representative for several top-tier fly fishing manufacturers, including Scott. In 1999, Jim went to work as National Sales Manager for Scientific Anglers, a company he continues to consult for. An avid fish-head in every sense, Jim now divides his time between Bozeman, Montana and the warm waters of the Caribbean.
Jim has been a part of the Scott gang for well over a decade. He has shared some of our best streamside campfires. If you are looking for some intense adventure with a Scott fly rod, we could not recommend anyone better.

The Scott Family has many big hearts, but Darío may have the biggest of them all. His dedication, generosity, enthusiasm, and "calor humano" are so contagious he can make a hundred people smile with a single wink.
Darío is a dedicated fly fisher, conservationist, and casting instructor who has brought thousands of individuals into the sport. His work began three decades ago with the founding of two major fly fishing schools, the Escuela de Pesca y Campamento Instituto Sarmiento and the Escuela de Pesca con Mosca Club San Huberto, both of which set the standard for fly fishing instruction in the Mercosur. Today, he teaches regular fly fishing seminars via Fly Express s.r.l. (Scott's exclusive distributor for South America) from Tierra del Fuego to São Paulo.
Darío's accessibility and extensive teaching background make him the number one choice for those wanting to learn about flyfishing in Argentina and Brazil. Murray Downie is internationally acclaimed for his fishing expertise of 31 years. Born and bred in the Ureweras, he knows intimately the Rangitaiki River, the Whirinaki River, Lake Aniwhenua, and the many other waters located within minutes of his country home in Murupara.
Murray considers his home turf the best fly fishing playground imaginable, and loves to introduce clients to his many pet trout. He specializes in upstream dry fly and nymph fishing, and his unique guiding style enables quick success for even the novice angler.
More often than not, you’ll see his old G905/4 in his hand, simply because it is his favorite for controlling long leaders at short to medium-long distances. For heavier tackle and larger waters, he switches to 6 and 7 weight S4’s. All of his Scott rods have thousands of inches of wild New Zealand trout under their belt, and have undergone the heaviest on-the-water trial of any fishing tool in the Southern Hemisphere.

(ICELANDIC): Það er september, 1964 og Hjómar eru með tónleika í Háskólabíói. Engilbert Jensen er að ljúka við að syngja lagið "The House of the Rising Sun".

(ENGLISH): It is September, 1964 and Hjómar, the Icelandic rock group, is holding a concert. As the music stops with Engilbert Jensen singing "The House of the Rising Sun", the audience jumps up, shouting in admiration. Engilbert is a well known musician in Iceland who has played the drums and done the singing with a number of bands and has many melodies to his name. Today he is still singing, but the wild life of rock'n roll is behind him. Now, the house of the rising sun is no longer a house of ill repute, but a cabin at the water where unsuspecting rising trout are soon to be tricked by a master fly tier, fisherman and a student of nature.
Engilbert, born in 1941, started fishing as an infant, and began fly fishing in 1974. He worked for four years as a guide at Grimsa, Iceland's most renowned salmon river, although his favourite river is the Hofsa in Vopnafjördur. He has designed his own flies, the better known being the Topfly, IFC (In the First Cast) and Lonely Blue. These flies and Engilbert were the subject of one chapter in the book "Skandinaviske fluefiskere" (Scandinavian Fly Fishermen) which was published in 1996 in Norway by Naturforlaget.
He also makes his own flyrods, the first Scott project being ARC 1196/4. During the winter he teaches fly casting and fly tying and is generous in sharing his long experience of fly fishing, fly tying, fly casing and his observations of nature with his students. He is a true gentleman at his sport and has great respect for nature. And when he goes home from his fishing, the only thing which he leaves behind are his footprints, and occasionally a fish which has fought well and hard for its freedom and has no problem in swimming away, happily enjoying a new lease on life in the clear waters of Iceland

I live in the alpine village of Thredbo in the heart of the Snowy mountains region of New South Wales. Australia.
I spend most of my time chasing rainbows and browns in the rivers and lakes which surround my home. Guiding and teaching fly fishing, and skiing during the Winter's snowy months.
Having spent 20yrs traveling around the globe chasing the snow, I have been lucky to fish in some amazing places... Montana and Colorado jump to mind.
But in winter, the real fun is stalking and polaroiding big fish cruising the local lake shores. Look for me I'll be the guy flicking a wooly bugger at a the big brown.
Although I spend most of my time on the trout. I also enjoy the challenge of the salt having chased bones on Christmas island and various salty critters along the east coast of Australia. I am always trying to increase the species count.

"I've been chasing the elusive steelhead with a fly rod for over 20 years, a guide for 5 years and now also work at Pacific Fly Fishers in Mill Creek, WA.
Although I have been known to chase other species both in the salt and in the rivers and lakes, steelhead will always be my fish of choice. My home river is the Skykomish River. This was the first river I fished, and it was the first river to produce my very first steelhead. Ever since that mid-April day years ago, I've been addicted to steelhead fishing with the fly.
Steelheading to me is an insatiable passion; a passion that can only be temporarily fulfilled by spending the day on the river, swinging for the bruisers in the cold waters of Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
I get asked many times, "why did you become a guide?" I decided to start my guide service Northwest Steelheading to share my knowledge of the local rivers and steelhead with other anglers who share my passion or anglers who are looking to experience the exhilaration of their first steelhead taken on the fly.
A guided day of fishing with me typically involves a float down the river in a raft, stopping to get out and wade while swinging flies. The rivers I guide include the Skykomish in the summer and winter; the Hoh, Queets, and Sol Duc in the winter and spring; and the Grand Ronde, and Wenatchee in the fall. Each river has its own history and personality. As we spend the day searching for willing steelhead, I will do my best to help you learn the river, understand the types of water steelhead are most likely to hold in, and offer my assistance with the various techniques of swinging flies for steelhead.
I look forward to fishing with you whether you have been doing this for decades or if this is your first trip with a fly rod in hand."

I was born in San Mateo California, and started fishing when I was 2 years old. As a young boy, I remember seeing a picture in a magazine of a man fly-casting, and that picture sparked a desire to learn the sport. Years later I received a fly rod from a girlfriend. I’ve been Chasing fish all over since…she’s long gone.
Fly-fishing has taken me to places such as New Zealand, the Bahamas, Alaska (Where I guided as well), and coast to coast in the states. As a shop employee in my hometown of Chico in Northern California, and as a guide, Fly Fishing has introduced me to lots of great people I may have never crossed paths with otherwise. My passion these days revolves around teaching others, developing flies as a signature tier for Idylwilde, and learning something new every time I hit the water.

He started fishing in the Wood River Valley at the age of 12 and began tying custom flies for people at the age of 17. Brian has always been dedicated to the sport of flies and fish. In college, he further improved his fly fishing talents by starting a college minor in aquatic entomology, just so he better understood what trout like to eat! Brian is an avid angler in both the fresh and saltwater arenas and a world class fly tier in both as well. When not on the water or behind the vise, Brian enjoys hunting, packing, music, art and a good book. If he’s not busy learning something new about the sport of fly-fishing, he is busy teaching others its subtle nuances.

Most summer days find him floating the Gunnison, and he is always putting his Scott rods through the paces. His favorite rods are the S4905/4 and the G2884/4 for trout fishing, and the S4S908/4, and S4S909/4 for northern pike.

Every afternoon you will find Kevin McKay at his fly fishing headquarters tying flies or online managing his websites, www.mainefyfish.com and www.mainefishingadventures.com. He is never far from what some debate his true love to be, his world of fishing. He searches information on gear, flies, river flows and his next trip. McKay is passionate about finding the best deals and hot spots for his clients.
Kevin was raised in Maine around lakes, ponds and rivers where his mom and dad took him fishing during the lazy days of summer at JoMary Campground. From there he taught himself the tricks of the trade in fly fishing and all the sport has to offer one’s sanity. He has built his guide business on the many pleasures fishing offers; adventure, knowledge, skill, honesty and fun.
Kevin lives with his patient wife of 14 years and their sons, Tait and Jax. Luckily for Kevin, they all love fishing and the four steal away any chance they get to enjoy casting their flies together, along with their dog, Feta. They have all accepted Kevin’s addiction to the sport and have succumbed to the fact there is no help for his condition, despite many attempts at intervention. So, the next best thing is for them to join in. Tait and Jax have become fly fishing anglers in their own rite, as featured fishermen along with Kevin, on Grey Ghost Production’s latest film, “The Good Life”. The three have been featured in many articles as well as in local newspapers for fly tying and fly fishing events.
Kevin offers guided trips for trout, bass, and salmon in several locations around the state of Maine. He has a jet boat, a drift boat and a canoe. You can enjoy wet wading or stay dry in the pleasures of the boat. Whatever the deal, Kevin is one of the leading names in fly fishing in state of Maine. Many of his clients have fished all over the world and have touted McKay as the best guide they have ever had.
“Maine is becoming known as a state with one of the most diverse fisheries in the country and Kevin McKay is well known as the guide who can put you onto all of the species of freshwater fish this wonderful state has to offer. If it will put a bend in your Scott Fly Rod, Kevin will guide you to it. He is known and respected by fly shops around the state for his ability to consistently get clients into fish no matter what that client’s skill level may be. Catch native landlock salmon or brook trout in the morning and then chase fat hog smallmouth in the afternoon. Kevin does it all and does it with exuberance, charm, and a professional manner that helps turn a guided trip with him into wonderful memories and dreams of the next outing. His commitment to Scott Fly Rods goes well beyond the S4 tattoo that emblazons his ass. While being guided by Kevin don’t miss a hook set or those pearly cheeks will be exposed and the most horrifying Scott S4 advertisement will turn those wonderful memories and dreams into nightmares!!!”
Jim Bernstein of Eldredge Bros. Fly Shop in Cape Neddick.
“It has been my pleasure to be a friend and colleague of Kevin McKay for the past three years. During that time I've seen Kevin in his truest form, on the water where he is meant to be. I suppose the best way to describe Kevin, is that he is a “fishy”guy; in fact I am led to believe that he may even have a dorsal or a pectoral fin somewhere under his wading jacket. If it lives in the water he’s casting for it. May it be bronze-back’s or squaretails, salt or fresh water, any water body is his habitat and home. There is no doubt Kevin is one of the hardest working fishermen I have come across. His common sense approach to life is exactly what is needed these days. His uncommonly wonderful results speak directly to his dedication, commitment and love for the sport of fly-fishing.”

I started fishing about 2 days after I started walking, my whole family fished that’s just what we did. I grew up in a small town only minutes away from two of Australia’s best trout lakes, in Camperdown Victoria.
I got the fly-fishing bug at about age 15 but knew no one that fly fished so I had to teach myself and I had to learn how to tie flies as well.
Started tying flies commercially in 1991 and it has been my major source of income since. Developing unique fly patterns requires many fishing hours to test their effectiveness and Scott fly rods have been used as the tool for presenting these new patterns over my fly fishing career.
I will throw a fly at any fish, don’t care what species, any fish that eats a fly is a good fish but my two real loves are dry fly fishing on small streams and wet fly fishing in the local estuaries.
I write the Estuary Essentials column in the Fly Fisher Magazine and have contributed a number of stories for other magazines. I have almost finished my first book and have just finished filming my first fly tying DVD.
It is a great honour to be accepted as a Scott pro staff member and the easiest position I have been given, it’s easy to talk and promote about the worlds best fly rods!

Between Montana, Washington, Alaska and Mexico – “Rooster” as most know him, spends more time on the water than he does with his family in Montana. Whether you are a guest of the Stonefly, or in the front of his driftboat, you can expect to hear stories (most of them true) ranging from his days as a rescue swimmer with the Coast Guard, to trolling offshore for Black Marlin in Panama and everything in between. He prides himself as the type of fly fishing guide that can blend into any atmosphere, with a smile on his face. He generally stops at nothing to make sure everyone around him is enjoying themselves.
Rooster has a penchant for good equipment, and will be the first to tell you he doesn’t have time for gear that won’t stand the test of time. Hence his fly rod preference.Chris Dore

I caught my first fish at age 2 and haven’t looked back!
I grew up in the San Diego area and cut my teeth fishing for anything that I could catch - usually bluegill and bullheads in the small creek that ran behind the house. I was fortunate enough that even though we lived near San Diego, my parents always chose to live in rural areas! I was 10 years old when my Grandma bought me a fly rod and fly tying kit. At that point I was eager to learn everything there was to know about fishing. The dog, cats, and Mom's parakeets all lost a bit of their fur and feathers as I began working on my first fly! Great Pyrenees tails make a great minnow pattern...
I have always had a passion for the outdoors, fishing and hunting became an obsession for me. I started guiding waterfowl hunts when I turned 18, and after a couple of years bouncing around from Florida to Wyoming, I decided to put down some roots and started Wild Times Guide Service in the Klamath Basin. The Klamath has so much to offer for the outdoorsman it was the perfect spot for me. Aside from the incredible waterfowl hunting, the Klamath Basin is home to the wild redband rainbow, which grow to mammoth proportions in a short period of time!
The area I guide is full of trophy class waters, and I rarely even see another fisherman - talk about finding Shangri-la! As a full time guide for the past 20 years I became quite the gear head, and can't wait to start working with Scott Rods!

I have been guiding waterfowl in the Klamath Basin on the Cal/Or border for 22 years. I've guided Fly Fishing in the area for twelve years, on the head waters of the Klamath river, various reservoirs in California, and Klamath Lake. My time spent in this area has afforded me the knowledge of when, where, and how to hunt/fish the entire area.

Although he has fished since he was able to walk, Jamie Briscoe’s guiding career began in the blue waters of Baja in 1989. After having spent his youth fishing and playing in the ocean, the mountains called him to Sun Valley, Idaho in 1992 where he began guiding for Silver Creek Outfitters (and is still there today). During a relocation to the Pacific Northwest in 2000, Jamie melted into the two-handed world and took up a guiding gig that would always keep him close to big water and swinging flies for anadromous species. He says that will never change. “Spending 6 years behind the oars on the Deschutes was my calling. I blame it for my addiction and will simply never shake the memories.”
Having worked as a sales rep and R&D for a major rod & reel manufacturer, Jamie has watched the rod evolution. “From stand-up big game rods to 2 weights, I love them all.” While reflecting on what makes Scott the best, he adds: “Knowing what rod matches with an individual’s casting style is a skill that takes time and experience. One of my favorite parts of guiding is unraveling the mystery of fly casting to both the folks who have never fished, and the “experts” who could use some fine tuning. Scott doesn’t overthink it with too many confusing choices. They have the most well thought out line up of sticks that are built with thought and pride.”
Even with 25 years of guiding behind him, JB is still extremely enthusiastic about teaching. As the grandson of a WWII navy pilot and son of a veteran Navy SEAL, Briscoe is proud to be actively involved in assisting military veterans with fly fishing. He directs the Fly Fishing program for Higher Ground: a nationally recognized veteran rehabilitation program. HG has earned top honors from the Department of Defense, being listed as one of the nation’s top 54 innovative community leaders among 10,000 in serving our nation’s injured service members. It is in this venue where Jamie’s teaching style and human interactive skills are fully appreciated.
Along with being a Scott staffer, Briscoe is also a pro for Hatch Reels, Howler Brothers clothing, RO Drift Boats and is a Certified Casting Instructor (CCI) for the Federation of Fly Fishers. He lives in Sun Valley where he runs a real estate office, guides, skis & hunts, and is planning his next tropical trip. He aspires to pick up a flip flop sponsor soon.

Ron grew up in Portland, OR fishing the rivers of Central Oregon with his grandfather and father. When he was 5 years old he caught his first fish on a fly in the Metolius River and hasn't stopped fishing since. He started tying flies and working in the industry at 16, at Kaufmann's Streamborn under Randall's tutelage and went on to work summers at a fly shop on the Metolius before heading off to Wash U in St Louis for college. He started guiding in '91 on the Madison and then headed over the pass in '92 to guide for Mike Lawson on the Henry's Fork, where he remained through 2002. There he had the opportunity to learn from some of the best guides in the business and an amazing array of local anglers. It was during this time that Ron had an offer to guide in Patagonia and in '96 spent his first winter in Argentina. He's been guiding and outfitting double seasons ever since, building an outfitting business with his Argentine wife Vanessa, called Chocolate Lab Expeditions, based in San Martin de los Andes. In 2005 they moved to Ennis, MT in preparation for their children, Benito and Olivia, to start school and to be closer to the Madison and Missouri rivers.
Ron is a patient guide who transmits his passion for flyfishing to his clients everyday on the water- from beginners to experienced anglers alike. He loves the technical dry fly fishing on the Missouri, sight fishing on the Madison, and developing new flies and tactics for chasing the monster browns of Patagonia. The unique experience of exploring unknown waters in the corners of Patagonia has proved to be one of the most rewarding in his fishing career.
Often together with his wife Vanessa, Ron has travelled extensively giving presentations on fishing Patagonia from the Golden Gate Casting Club to the Anglers; Club in New York City.
Ron and CLE were featured in the movie "Rise" by Confluence Films, and multiple times in the Angling Report, including a feature article in the October 2012 issue. Ron was twice covered by Columbia Country's "Fishing The West", and Flyfishing and Tying Journal's Spring 2011 Guide Profile, various articles in Trout & Salmon, Gamefisher, Flyfishing & Tying, and others. He is a member of the RO Pro-Staff as well and in 2004 with much help from Vanessa, they started the Argentina branch of RO Drift Boats, bringing locally made drift boats to Patagonia.
"We fish such diverse waters, conditions, and techniques over the course of 2 seasons in 2 countries that you need an extensive arsenal of quality rods. Scott rods offer the performance- both the muscle to punch a mouse pattern under a bush on the far side of a Patagonia mountain stream and the smooth flex to stack slack to trout sipping spinners on the Missouri. To do this, combined with great aesthetics & constant research, all from a company here in the rockies! It's an honor to be on the Scott pro-staff."
