Joe began his journey as a fisherman back in the in the mid seventies as a 3rd generation musky angler. While fishing the Kawartha chain of lakes he caught his first musky at age 12 with his father.
Some years later Joe started his guiding career in Jackson Hole Wyoming with legendary outfitter Joe Bressler. After guiding and fishing throughout the West, Joe returned to his home state where he began fishing and guiding the Delaware river, learning the technical aspects of the river and honing his dry fly skills, teaching these skills to others. While in the early years working at the Delaware river, he met Jedi master Calle “Carl” Holmqist, master of the two handed rod. A few months later he found himself flying to Sweden, casting for Atlantic salmon underhand style. Within a year he submerged himself in the world of swinging flies for Steelhead with a double-handed rod. The allure of fishing in British Columbia overwhelmed him and one month out of a year for the next ten years Joe fished the waters of the Skeena watershed, swinging flies for Canadian chrome.
His passion for the sport of fly fishing gave him the opportunity and blessing of guiding and instructing in the states of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Alaska, Pennsylvania and New York.
He continues guiding the waters of the upper Delaware, where the river's gold n silver gems, complex hatches and technical fly presentation demand the best skills an angler can offer keep the fire burning.
Joe proudly hangs his hat at the West Branch Angler on the banks of the West Branch of the Delaware river going into his 15th season of guiding this world class fishery.
