Murray Downie is internationally acclaimed for his fishing expertise of 31 years. Born and bred in the Ureweras, he knows intimately the Rangitaiki River, the Whirinaki River, Lake Aniwhenua, and the many other waters located within minutes of his country home in Murupara.
Murray considers his home turf the best fly fishing playground imaginable, and loves to introduce clients to his many pet trout. He specializes in upstream dry fly and nymph fishing, and his unique guiding style enables quick success for even the novice angler.
More often than not, you’ll see his old G905/4 in his hand, simply because it is his favorite for controlling long leaders at short to medium-long distances. For heavier tackle and larger waters, he switches to 6 and 7 weight S4’s. All of his Scott rods have thousands of inches of wild New Zealand trout under their belt, and have undergone the heaviest on-the-water trial of any fishing tool in the Southern Hemisphere.
