Some say that "Captain Creature" has spent too many days in the sun. Conventional fishermen point out, for instance, that blue fin tuna really aren't meant to be caught on a fly rod. Captain Steve Coulter has spent his lifetime pursuing bluewater species off the Carolina Coast, and has traded his downriggers for big game saltwater fly fishing equipment. Holder of several IGFA world records, Steve simply prefers to fish for trophy species with a fly rod. He spends his days aboard the "Sea Creature" chasing blue fins, sailfish, yellow fin tuna, marlin, dorado, bonito, and several species of shark. Steve goes head to head with the trollers, and enjoys the blitzing power of these fish on much lighter tackle. Steve's clients are treated to the ultimate flyfishing experience: pursuing giant offshore species with a fly rod. Sometimes the other guys catch more fish with their downriggers, but Captain Coulter's clients always have the most fun.

Not many fly fishers would choose a 15-weight as their all-around rod, but in Steve's case, this is definitely the right tool for the job. Steve recommends the Scott 8415/3 for bluewater fly fishers. The 8415/3 has a light tip which "casts" 12-inch flies smoothly, while the fiberglass/graphite composite and gigantic butt section make this fly rod virtually unbreakable.

Book Captain Coulter for bluewater fly fishing out of famous Cape Hattaras in any month of the year. For aggressive fly fishers, this experience pushes the envelope...
